Francisco Alvarado’s farm El Durazno is in the mountains of Masaguara, Intibucá, at 1700 masl. He has owned the farm for 15 years, and every stage of production is a family effort, from harvest through to the meticulous processing and drying practices. Francisco has recently introduced new coffee varietals on the farm, and is always looking for ways to improve and enhance the quality of their coffees.
Francisco is part of the Intibucà Project, a network of producers in the Pozo Negro region. Led by local producer Rony Gámez, the group was created to establish a reputation for the coffee farmers and to forge a stable market. They meet regularly, sharing knowledge, and pooling resources to improve infrastructure. By working collectively, these smallholder farmers produce enough volume to gain access to traceable specialty markets for their microlots, creating greater long-term value for their coffees. This natural Bourbon is full of rich fruit sweetness with a soft, approachable acidity that has become a hallmark of Intibucá.
